Electrolysis in Padstow Heights

Permanent hair removal for every hair colour and skin type.

At IVY Skin, electrolysis is our speciality. Our founder Kelly Dermody has over 30 years of clinical electrolysis experience, leads the Electrology division of the Aesthetic and Beauty Industry Council (ABIC) and trains electrolysis therapists across Australia through Dermaskin Academy. Every therapist in our clinic is trained to those same standards.

What Is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis treats each hair individually. A fine, sterile probe is gently inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle and a tiny amount of energy is applied to destroy the growth cells at the root. Once those cells are destroyed, that hair can't grow back - which is why electrolysis is recognised as a permanent method of hair removal, not just hair reduction.

Who Is It For?

Electrolysis works on any hair colour - including blonde, red, grey and white hairs that laser can't treat - and on every skin type and tone. It's ideal for:

  • Facial hair on the chin, upper lip, jawline and neck

  • Shaping and tidying brows

  • Stray hairs on the breasts, abdomen and toes

  • Hair growth linked to hormonal changes such as PCOS or menopause

  • Remaining hairs after a course of laser

  • Small areas where laser isn't suitable

Pricing

  • 15 minutes - $60

  • 30 minutes - $99

  • 1 hour - $175

  • 2 hours - $300

Frequently Asked Questions

Is electrolysis permanent?

Yes. Once the growth cells of a follicle are destroyed, that hair won't grow back. Because hair grows in cycles, a course of treatments is needed to catch every hair as it appears.

Does electrolysis hurt?

Most clients describe a quick warm or stinging sensation that lasts a split second per hair. We adjust the settings to your comfort and many clients find it very manageable - some even relax through their session.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the area, how much hair you have and what's driving the growth. Most clients come in regularly over several months, with sessions getting shorter as the hair reduces. We'll give you an honest plan at your first visit.

Electrolysis or laser - which is better for me?

Laser is great for reducing dark hair over larger areas like legs and underarms. Electrolysis is permanent and works on every hair colour and skin type, so it's the best choice for fine, light or grey hairs, facial hair and small areas. Many clients use both - we offer each and will help you choose.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Let the hair grow for a few days beforehand so we can see and treat it. Please avoid waxing, threading or tweezing between sessions as it disrupts the growth cycle. Shaving or trimming is fine.

What's the aftercare?

Your skin may look a little pink for a few hours. For the next 24-48 hours keep the area clean and avoid makeup, heat, saunas, exfoliants and sun exposure. Try not to touch or pick the area. We'll talk you through everything on the day.

Is electrolysis safe?

Yes, when it's performed by a properly trained therapist. We use sterile, single-use probes for every client and follow strict infection control - the same standards we teach at Dermaskin Academy.
